Natural Killer Cell Testing
Why do Natural Killer (NK) Cell Testing when undergoing IVF?
There is no debate the presence or absence of uterine Natural Killer Cells appears to be important in determining the probability that a given embryo will implant.
In Dr Sonya Jessup's practice it is common to find that women with recurrent implantation failure or with endometriosis have increased levels of endometrial natural killer cells. A small group of patients seem to see benefit from taking prednisone (a steroid aimed at decreasing inflammation) during their embryo replacement cycles.
Although the studies to date do not support the routine supplementation of prednisone in IVF, it appears that there is a subgroup of women for whom this treatment is very successful.
