Dr Jessup's Fertility & IVF Services
Dr Sonya Jessup has worked in Fertility Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and IVF for more than 15 years. Over that time she has gained a wealth of knowledge firsthand about all aspects of infertility. Dr Jessup places great importance on the fertility workup ensuring all aspects of fertility health and general medical health are explored. If time is on your side, she will support you in every possible way, assisting you to conceive as naturally as possible. If there are reasons why it would be better for you to have IVF or ICSI as soon as possible, she will be honest and explain the evidence based reasons for IVF being the best option.
Dr Jessup's clinic is at Miranda and but she performs her egg collections under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic at Waratah Private Hospital in Hurstville. Her pregnancy rates are comparable with the very best units in Australia.
Dr Jessup’s IVF and ICSI treatments are individually personalised to each woman or couple. As well as using the routine array of fertility medications, she has developed special programs for women who are over 40 years or who have decreased ovarian reserve.
Dr Jessup believes there are two important aspects that need to be addressed to achieve high pregnancy rates in IVF. Maximising the health of the egg and embryo is obviously vital but also is maximising the health of the endometrial environment to give a good quality embryo the best chance of implanting.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” - Albert Einstein
Patients who have been investigated and found to have longterm unexplained infertility will find benefit in undertaking an IVF cycle to look further at the quality of the eggs and sperm and their individual interactions and to overcome some of the tubal and in vivo barriers to conception.
Patients who have had multiple embryos replaced without success will benefit from looking further at the genetic quality of the embryos and at the implantation phase allowing the development of a normal ongoing pregnancy. The endometrium is an integral part of fertility and needs to be considered in equal magnitude to the integrity of the embryo. in some patients their immunological status or their individual best window of implantation is altered and needs personalised attention to maximise pregnancy outcomes.
Dr Jessup knows that in some women pre-treatment of the endometrium with Lipiodol significantly increases the likelihood of a pregnancy. Likewise, women with endometriosis benefit from a number of additional medical and embryological interventions to optimise pregnancy outcomes.
Dr Jessup performs all her own fertility surgery removing fibroids, polyps, endometriosis and ovarian cysts at Waratah Private Hospital.
